A Year In The Life

Monday, July 2, 2012

It's my birthday.  And I do love birthdays.  Those people who hate their birthday really kind of bother me, because birthdays are major, epic holidays in my family.  Get used to it friends.  Big.  Freaking.  Deal.  And yes, it is a big one, because it's the one before the big one.  Or as I like to think, the first of many 29th birthdays.  So next year will be the first anniversary of my 29th birthday.  Love it.

I've thought a lot about the last year.  It has been a game changer in many ways.  My surroundings  changed.  My life changed.  Our family changed.  And this is what my New Yorker self kept coming back to, because life in New York really is like a musical...

In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee...
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife...
In 525,600 minutes...
How do you measure a year in the life?

So here goes...a year in the life.

1 Big City Apartment
24 Airplanes
1 Spectacular Wedding
12 Texas Layovers
6 Oklahoma Trips
9 Columbia Classes
1 High School Reunion
5 Empire State Building Visits
22 Ivy League Papers
1 Kansas Road Trip
15 Broadway Shows
10 Movies
7 Brooklyn Bridge Crossings
22 Visitors
5 Manhattan Snowy Days
1 New Job
15 Emergency Room Trips
24 Celebrity Sightings
2 New Family Members
1 New York Year

Kind of makes you wonder what the next one will bring.  I have high hopes for big things happening.  Surprises to enjoy.  Journeys to plan.  Life to live.

Baby Sister and I discussed lots of possibilities for bucket list adventures and 29 things for my 29th year.  Did you know that 29 is Baby Sister's favorite number?  Yep...sure is.  There were talks of 29 new restaurants and 29 Broadway shows and lots of other 29 things.  Suggestions are definitely welcome if you have great ideas for {the ivy project}.  But then I made that list...and I realized that 28 wasn't too shabby...and I just thought that 29 might be better lived without a list.

Because that's when life surprises you.
